In 1996, Hopkinton, Massachusetts residents Cindy Rymer and Joanne Brine brought us together to form the guild. Over the course of these 30 years, guild meetings have been held at St. John’s Church, the Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA), and are now at the Faith Community Church (146 E. Main Street, Hopkinton, MA).
We remain true to their vision of a small group, averaging about 25 members per year. Community service and collaboration remain at the heart of what we do. From the original quilts donated to the Respite Center during our first year, we have gone on to provide quilts for at-risk children and disaster victims. Over the years, we hosted quilt shows, created comfort quilts, and donated quilts for silent auctions and fundraisers for the Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA), Project Just Because, and many more charitable causes. We made placemats for Meals on Wheels, blocks for Quilts of Valor (QAV), and donated materials to the Hopkinton Senior Center, Girl Scouts, and the Hopkinton Public Library.
In honor of our 10th anniversary, we held our 4th biennial quilt show in May 2007. The show featured a retrospective of work by current and past members. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, our guild challenge featured the number "20," which inspired inventive and artistic interpretations displayed at our quilt show in September 2016.
Looking ahead to our 30th anniversary, the 2026 quilt show – "A Thread Runs Through It" – takes place April 11-12, 2026, at the HCA (98 Hayden Rowe Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748). This show will feature quilting by current and past members, guild challenges, raffle quilts, vendors, and more. A collaborative exhibit will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Boston Marathon, titled "Go the Distance". This eight-panel "polyptych" quilt, created by regional artists, honors the Marathon’s experience and history from start to finish. This promises to be our largest show yet.
The Marathon Quilters Guild is a charitable and educational 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our EIN number is 81-5417594.
